B.Tech Induction Program 2017
A common observation in higher education institutions is that students entering higher studies are, by and large not fully prepared for college-level education, especially in an academically demanding field such like engineering. We believe that much of this is due to lack of proper appreciation regarding university level education and approach to handle college life. To help prepare students better for the transition from school to IIIT-D, and to make of the most of the excellent education and environment provided at IIIT-D, the Institute is conducting an induction program.
The main goal of the induction program is to help students shift plane from school to University (Institute) life. Specifically, we hope that at the end of the program, students are committed and excited about learning, and appreciate that learning is crucial for their career and future as well as personal growth. This program will also help students to appreciate the importance of professionalism and value. At the same time it will help them establishing a healthy bonding within the student community.
The program also aims at ensuring that the students are better prepared for effective self-management – life skills, time management, effective study habits, balance between studies and extra-curricular activities, managing moods/addiction, etc. so that they can ‘gain the best development’ from their stay at IIIT-D.
Each day’s program will encompass a mixture of different types of activities: talks, panel discussions, presentations; hands-on activities and group work; sports; cultural. Detailed schedule is given below. It will largely be organized and managed by Student Council of IIIT-D and student volunteers. Most sessions are interactive – students will be encouraged to express their views and participate actively.

School to College
This session will focus on how school life is different from college life, and what students need to do to transition effectively to college life.
Motivation
Motivation is one the most important factors that influences how well a student does in studies (or how well a person does on work.) This session will discuss with students issues relating to motivation and help them self-motivate so they can study more effectively.
Effective Study Habits & Time Management
This session, which also uses information from students from IIIT-Delhi, discusses why it is important to have effective study habits, and what are some of the habits that work well for students. Many students end up spending too much time on some type of tasks, or wasting time, even though they would like to lead a balanced life and spend time judiciously among various activities and goals. This session will discuss the importance of effective time management, the major time wasting activities, and how students can plan their time, and then follow the plan for effectively managing their time so they can get the most from their college life.
Student Values
Students make choices on personal and professional life. This session will help students identify the values they believe in and how they can live a life consistent with their values.
Careers
In this section some successful people with diverse careers will discuss their life stories, choices they made, and lessons they learned. This session can motivate incoming students to aim high and recognize that they have many career choices after their university education.
Professionalism
In this session professionals from companies will share their views about what companies expect from their professionals. This session can help students understand what types of values and work ethics they need to cultivate while they are students to become effective professionals.
Alumni Interaction
The session will give new students a chance to interact with IIITD Alumnus working across the country and abroad. Alumni will share their experiences of both the college and corporate life.
Programming Familiarization
These are meant for students who don't have prior experience with computer programming. These sessions are meant to take their fear of programming away and make them comfortable with the concept of programming. This will prepare them well for the "Intro to Programming" course in which they will learn programming. Some other activities will be planned for those students who know programming.
Group Activities
These are fun activities which will also develop teamwork. There will be multiple activities where in student can participate.
